Sleeping or Stressing?

Mark 4:35-41 recounts a story of the time when Jesus sleeps in the middle of a storm on the sea of Galilee. The experienced fishermen on the other hand, seized with abject terror, are certain they are about to perish.

Our ability to remain calm in the midst of a storm grants us the authority to declare “Peace! Be still!”

This isn’t a question of power as much as it is a testament to position. Jesus knew his position as Creator of heaven and earth, Master of sea and sky. He is Son of God, Son of Man. He not only had position, he knew his position and the authority that came with it.

Many believers fail to exercise and live in the authority that comes with being a child of the Most High God.

He raised us up with Christ the exalted One, and we ascended with him into the glorious perfection and authority of the heavenly realm, for we are now co-seated as one with Christ!

Ephesians 2:6 TPT

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature… 2 Peter 1:3-4

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. Luke 10:19

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called… Ephesians 1:18-22

If you don’t have the peace to sleep in the middle of a ferocious storm, you won’t have the authority to bring calm to that storm.

Imagine Jesus waking up “Whoa! This is bad. Keep her steady, men! Do we have more buckets for bailing?”
Nope, not at all. I can imagine Jesus woke up with a deep sigh because he’d been having such a good sleep and he was also incredulous that the disciples didn’t exercise faith. He simply woke up and said to the sea “Peace! Be still!”
The wind ceased. There was great calm.

Thus, it is in our lives.
Know and own your position in Jesus Christ. Walk as if you ruled the world, because in reality, you do. Storms will not send you into a tailspin, the big waves won’t scare you. Instead, speak from your seat in heavenly places and declare “Peace! Be still!”
And it shall be so.
